Robin Rhode is a mixed media artist that has an interesting focus towards his work; his work involves having more movement within his art. These particular movement can have some form of meaning, depending on where or when. The materials, as well as the medium he uses also play an important factor within his works as well. Rhode was also known to be a street artist and made most of his work in South Africa, the same country where William Kentridge originated his work.  Time: 14:00       One work that Robin Rhode did was an assortment of wall art he has created in Johannesburg. In Johannesburg, Rhode was able to gather a bunch of artist that lived within the city and create street art within a wall; within that wall, they were able to create an array of geometric shapes and animate a person moving within the shapes at the same time. From there, they were able to make shots of the subjects movement, frame by frame.  Time: 22:24     Within the wall murals they have created, Rhode w

The Art of Publication

Emory Douglas was an African American graphic artist who has developed his technical skills through experience, as well as education. As an artist, Emory's work was well recognized in emphasizing black culture, as well as the civil rights movement within history; his works were included within publications, as well as encouraging political artists within the art world. One of Emory's best works that he has created within his career, was an artwork called The Black Panther. The reason why this artist has chosen the name for this work was because he wanted to promote black movement within the community. As Emory was Hired to do publications for a newspaper company, he has made his work detailed enough to spread within America, as well as other people who are viewing it within the newspapers.      Other than publishing his work, the way he made his work included a bunch of thick bold outlines within his art; these thick lines within his work makes his work seem more graphic

Coca Cola?

Image
Wang Guangyi is a well known Chinese artist that I have learned from one of the lectures in Contemporary art history. One of the interesting things that was interesting though his work was one of the artworks that he has created called Criticism of Coca-Cola. Criticism of Coca-Cola was an oil painting he has produced, and was created in order for the viewers to understand the struggle between the cultural revolution within their country, as well as the view towards communism. Not only that the message was clear within the painting, but the style that the artist had within this painting, was spread out towards multiple works that he has created. The theme seems graphical because of the way Guangyi painted these artworks. The numbers that were represented within the paintings reminds the viewers the extreme restrictions that Guangyi and his people went through during the communist times; these were multiple symbols within the work that represent the worker's number within a fact

From there, he has studied lithography during his career; eventually he was able to incorporate this with his art style. Lithography was a style known for printing within ink and processing high quality images. Roy De Forest is well known for his cartoon drawings stylized with animals, humans, devils and ships. Along with keeping his consistent art style, as well as incorporating some graphic arts within his medium, he was able to create different types of stories within each collection of his work.       Within The art exhibition, located in the Manetti Shrem Museum in UC Davis, Roy De forest had a collection of work posted within the gallery. How the artworks were arranged were organized in different categories; each of these categories represents a different type of genre that De Forest exemplifies through each of his works. Some of these categories would include obscure titles such as Metamorp

A week before Spring break, one of the art lectures that I have recently discovered relates to another artist that has her work involving social practice. Angie Ang, A time based media and New Media artist, has involved her work around the topic of social engaged art. Her artwork shows how engaging it is towards the audience of identity, as well as emphasizing her principles towards social justice, and other political spectrums within her art. I have asked her how long do projects like these take within her work, and her response was about six months. Within the time frame, she had to collaborate with other people of identity in order to make her artwork successful; these methods involve interviewing the participants as well as researching on the subject matter that relates to social justice. Within the timeframe, she made these methods possible in order to make her work successful; she backed up her work after gathering all the necessary sources she needed to implement the ideas

Shadows of Animation

Image
A South African Artist named William Kentridge, has developed his art that involves various mediums within his work. These mediums range from printmaking, collages, charcoal, graphite, and ink. What all of these mediums however have in common, is that they involve the use of movement and animation. The artwork Kentridge has made focuses on movement and animation in order to interact with his viewers; he interacts with his viewers by questioning their world on where they live in today, and how they see it in their eyes.  Time: 6:08     In a recent exhibition he has created, In Praise of Shadow, he created several animations and installations that involve quick and precise drawings that give the viewers straight to the point; all of his drawings, animations and installations are meant to be imaginative towards ideas, as well as sending context towards his viewers. Some of these artworks that Kentridge has made involve several different types of arrangements, depending on what kind

In one of the exhibits I have visited in Sacramento State, Kim Abeles Introduced her work towards her viewers. Kim Abeles is a mixed media artist who based her work towards a stop against pollution, a commonly known issue we faced within our world. Through her collection of artwork, she uses any leftover material as well as ashes of smog mixed over her experience and travels and uses them to make her own assemblages; these captured images, sculptures and other artworks she has made are meant to be a record she has engraved throughout that period in time. With the idea of pollution she uses the term smog within her artwork to represent the idea of what is going on within her work, and gives us an idea of what she conveys within her work, a footprint to be exact.       One Collection of artwork I had some interest in exploring her artwork would be the mapping and marking. Within this collection, she has made an assortment of photography and engravings within these compositions; th
